Paper Relief Sculptures
7th grade blew me away with this project. The students learned about 2D vs. 3D as well as high and low relief. Students experimented with rolling, cutting, and gluing two-dimensional paper to make it three-dimensional. They recorded their steps for three forms and selected one. Once they chose their form, they created 40 more of varying size! After their forms were completed, we discussed movement and symmetry. The students sketched their composition and decided whether it would be symmetrical or asymmetrical. The results were astounding!!
