Still Life Collages
For this unit, students learned about still lives, directional shading, and proportion. Paintings of the artist Cezanne were shown as inspiration for still life art. Students first selected three objects which they would like to draw. After the objects were depicted on paper they were brought to life with directional shading using colored pencils. The objects were cut out and glued onto a colorful and abstract background and table. Students were challenged to make the table shape more visually interesting than a typical rectangle and to overlap their objects.
